Fish

Hey guys
Today I am deciding on my camera! Thank you for the tips. They've helped out quite a bit. :)

On to a mini food crisis:

I have REALLY been craving fish the last week. I definitely do not want to eat it but I was wondering if anyone knew of some good fish substitutes? Is there such thing as mock fish? I recently heard about some mock shrimp and am looking to get some of those.

Now I'm heading out to the shops and will be back late tonight to give a report on the camera.

Have a nice weekend!

You'll have to let us know what kind of camera you end up getting! I'm debating getting a new one myself.

How long have you been veg*n Teddy? For about the first year after I gave up meat, the one thing I would crave every once and a while was chicken wings. That has since passed. I hate to admit this one but...sometimes when I smell someone's barbeque, I think it smells good. Then I realize what's ON the BBQ and I feel guilty as hell. And quite repulsed! Am I the only one?
Hang tough! Like any craving, I'm sure it will pass.

Maybe some veggie sushi would do the trick? The nori or seeweed has a "ocean" taste.

How about vegan sushi rolls? Sometimes the Nori is "fishy" enough. I also made a mock tuna salad once, out of soaked sunflower seeds. I don't have the exact recipe with me, but I'll get it to you tomorrow :)

this was pretty fishy..

or so I thought.. but I've never really eaten fish.

Using Nori as a wrap is pretty fishy too..

I've heard of mock sea bass (you know I won't try any meat or fake meat). There is also some mock fish recipes in the Candle Cafe cookbook (I can email you). I know there's a lot of fake land animals, I just haven't seen too much of fish. Oh, they have fake fish finger type stuff at Whole Foods in the freezer section.

The Vegan Lunch Box blog has a recipe for some tofu fish sticks. Seaweed has a good fishy taste you can experiment with.

I've tried Tuno, and it was ok if you are craving tuna. I can't seem to find it in the local stores anymore, but I've seen it online. We made our own tuno out of Textured Veggie Protein and just added kelp powder, salt, pepper, vegan mayo and dill. Britty loved it!!

Some vegan cookbooks have mock fish, and I think they use kelp powder.

I like the seaweed ideas others are posting too! Maybe some seaweed in a soup will make you feel better! :)

hello!
LB- I think i've heard of that store but never been, thanks!

Carrie- I've been Veg for 5 years now but fish was the absolute last thing i gave up (I was even a pesce veg for a long time, eating fish about once every 3 months). The cravings do pass and caving in would make me feel terrible! Glad that I didn't :)

VV- haha cute idea, I have some veg gummies at home actually. Richard LOVES gummies

Kleo- I LOVE veganlunchbox. How could i forget? thanks for the reminder. *slaps herself in the head* haha

Megan- Nori is a great idea. Maybe more miso soup is what I need- EXTRA Nori please

orangina- I would really appreciate that recipe. It sounds like it may hit the spot.

melody- I've never had Hijiki before but I remember reading about it somewhere. Thanks for the tips

Leslie- hmm there's a whole foods about 15 miles from my house (I think) I haven't been since I moved. Maybe it's time i checked it out. Thanks for the help- I know you're not one for mock anything :)

Evil twin- Like your alter ego hehe
Govinda's sounds too good to be true! I'd love to come to philly the only things in the way are time money and a little thing called work. Darn those things! they keep me from good mock seafood.

Thanks guys! Be seeing you tomorrow
