I made potato skins for a SuperBowl/Birthday party we had today with my family.
They were a hit! My grandpa loved them.
However I need to ask, is there such thing as vegan sour cream? I searched and couldn't find any at my local natural foods store. I would LOVE to hear about it. Next time I want to try and veganize my potato skins. Any topping suggestions?

Teddy, there is pre-made vegan sour cream made by Tofutti. I think there is another type too but I forget the brand. I see the Tofutti at our co-op and at Whole Foods. I've had homemade (restaurant-made) vegan sour cream and I really liked it. I think I may have a recipe for some and I'll email you if I do have it. The skins look great.
Tofutti makes one that's pretty good, but read the label, because their stuff usually contains trans fats. I believe they make a non-trans fat one.

Oh hell yes, there is such a thing as vegan sour cream. And it's DAMN GOOD. Tofutti sells a version. And I've had another version before as well, though I'm not sure what brand. They sell at least one of the brands at my local grocer, so I'd imagine you shouldn't have TOO much trouble tracking it down...

There is vegan sour cream available in health food stores. I have seen it in Whole Foods if you live near one. Probably the best known ones are Tofutti Better Than Sour Cream and Tofutti Sour Supreme (this one contains partially hydrogenated fats). Although they Toffuti state that these are vegan they do both contain sugar which may have been processed using bone char, so it depends on your feelings about that. You can find out more at tofutti.com.
You could also try making your own using tofu. There are lots of recipes on the internet if you do a search. I have tried making it with tofu and did not enjoy it. But you might like it!

I've had Sour Supreme before, made by Tofutti, and I believe it's vegan. Pretty tasty, too. They also make "Better Than Cream Cheese."

I think Tofutti has a sour cream but I've heard mixed reviews about it. I love potato skins too -- but, I think it's the layer of melty cheese that makes them.
